The Holy and the Hore
This artwork places sanctity and provocation in a field of tension: A vertically standing brick features an iconic depiction of the Madonna ,symbolizing purity and devotion. In the background, a gray wall is adorned with a series of abstracted vaginas, painted, printed, and applied as paste-ups. The vaginas represent feminine strength, corporeality, and self-determination, engaging in a dialogue with the traditional portrayal of the Madonna.
The empty space above the wall opens up room for reflection and amplifies the tension between culturally charged symbols of the saint and the sinner.
